This Poem is Only Marginally About Mixtapes

Mixtapes
August 28, 2010

I find
As I recompile our mixes
That the same songs reappear
Time after time

The same threads
The same patterns
The same rugs

We really don’t change that much
Then, do we?
We’re made of the same stuff

Or just sentimental
Don’t let go
Don’t find something new
When we’re already attached

But this must be the crossroads
The daybreak

A new dawn is coming
When maybe
We’ll add new songs

And those, too,
Can join the mix
Of ever repeating
Never deleting
Old and familiar
Always want to hear
